Our Company

History - In 1977 Glenn Smejkal and Dave Krause worked together at Absocold Corporation in Ionia. Glenn worked in the maintenance department and Dave was a shipping and receiving foreman, they quickly became close friends. It was during an evening out on the town that the two came up with an idea, to start an electrical contracting company based on performance and quality. In 1978 the two started G&D Electric. At first the company was operated out of Glenn’s Greenville home until they moved to the other side of town buying a building that was once an auto repair/tire shop. This still stands as the current location of the company. The building has gone through many transformations; including a 4,000 square foot addition to accommodate the growing business.

In the early going (1978-1988) Glenn & Dave focused on designing/building conveyor systems that took them out of state. They kept crews in Greenville at the same time, realizing that the Greenville economy had a lot to offer. By 1989 G&D Electric was a well established force amongst Western Michigan electrical contractors. In 1997 Glenn decided that it was time to step down and do more of what he loved, fishing. Glenn and his wife Rose spent 20 years of their lives making G&D Electric what it was and decided it was time to retire in the Florida Keys. Their son Jeff now carries on the Smejkal name in the company has important rolls in estimating and the managing of the company. David Krause, President, brought his son Brad into the company to both manage the service department and estimate. Working in the company since their early teenage years, both Jeff and Brad have the experience and willingness to help the company grow and make their customers experience a memorable one. Together, the management team at G&D Electric provide a well rounded company that can fulfill all of your electrical needs.
